The Assistant Superintendent - Cemetries is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and development of all public cemeteries under the Local Authority's jurisdiction. This includes ensuring compliance with burial regulations, managing cemetery grounds, and coordinating with the cemetery keeper to maintain the facility's overall upkeep and functionality

Qualifications:
- Diploma or associate degree in Facilities Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or equivalent
- Three (3) years; related experience in Facilities Management
- Training in Supervisory or Project Management would be an asset
Responsibilities:
- Ensure that all burials are conducted in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
- Ensure that all burials, exhumations, and other cemetery related activities comply with relevant laws and burials regulations.
- Monitor the overall conditions of the cemetery grounds and ensure that they are maintained to an acceptable standard.
- Ensure smooth execution of burial operations and the management of gravesites
- Supervise the allocation and proper layout of burial sites, ensuring correct grave measurements and placements.
- Supervise operations to ensure that cemeteries are kept clean, orderly and properly maintained.
- Oversee the bushing and cleaning of cemeteries, ensuring that graves and walkways are clear of debris.
- Ensure that all tools and materials required for cemetery operations are available and managed efficiently.
- Monitor the sealing of vaults and ensure that proper safety measures are in place during burials and grave digging.
- Address any health and safety concerns that may arise within the cemetery grounds,
- Prepare and submit reports on cemetery activities, including burials, maintenance work, and resource usage.
- Maintain detailed records of all burial sites, including the issuance of identification plates and vaults.
- Communicate with bereaved families, providing assistance and information regarding cemetery services.
- Assist with the planning of future cemetery expansions or improvements to accommodate the community's needs.
- Participate in the development of long-term maintenance strategies to ensure the sustainable management of cemetery grounds.
- Identify and report risks associated with cemetery operations.
